Tulum

So you’ve been relaxing from amanecer (sunrise) to atardecer (sunset) on the gleaming white sands that border the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean and your body yearns for some good old-fashion exercise.

While lazily swinging in my hammock under a palapa roof on the 3d floor at La Selva Mariposa, I contemplate why so many of our guests are at first drawn to the Riviera Maya to play in the turquoise waters and sink their toes into the silky white sand that borders the gleaming sea.

I wake slowly with a sense of floating and soon realize that Molly, one of our three dogs, is nudging our swinging bed, and I know it is time to open my eyes and think about today’s breakfast.

It is 5:30 in the evening and my husband, Lou, and I are sitting beside the Chichen Itza fountain sipping a cup of tea while waiting for the next guests to arrive.

We all, at one time in our lives, dream of leaving our mundane world in search of an exotic paradise. My husband and I had a dream to build a B & B on a gorgeous piece of property we purchased three years ago on Santa Fe Beach in Tulum.
